ABOUT RenoBenPhotography
KWC: Hello Reno, how are you?
Please introduce yourself
RenoBenPhotography: Hi, I'm Reno Benasfre, or RenoBen for short. I'm doing quite well, Thank you!.
Currently I live in Northern California, and I'm currently a part time Caregiver, and full time Photographer.
KWC: Do you have any other hobbies besides cosplay photography?
RenoBenPhotography : I actually used to be an artist before I got into Photography. Which actually helped me have a better foundation for when I began doing photography. You can actually find a mixture of my photography, and art work on my old account at OneShotArtist.Deviantart.com
KWC: What is your favorite game/manga/anime/comic/movie?
RenoBenPhotography : Currently my favorite game would be League of Legends. If you're interested in playing you can add my summoner name "Masurao317".
As for my favorite Manga it would be One Piece because it still goes strong after all these years! Now my favorite Anime is Nichijou hands down! I can't get enough of that Anime lol! My Favorite Comic would have to be anything to do with the Green Lantern series, and for my favorite movie it would be Tae Guk Gi. One of the very few films that put a tear in my eye, and beautifully directed.
KWC: Which are your favorite characters?
RenoBenPhotography : Hmm favorite Characters... I would have to say if I were to pick three it would be "The Fearless Zombie Killer" Saeko Busujima from HOTD, "The Adorably Cute Palm Tiger" Taiga Aisaka, and "The Socially Awkward" Sousuke Sagara from Full Metal Panic.
KWC: Do you have a favourite photographer or a role model?
:devrenobenphotography: In fact I have several, but one I look up to the most is Robby Cavanaugh Photography. His work is just amazing all around, and I inspire to be at his level one day, but to bring a similar style of his to cosplay. Check out his work here: www.facebook.com/robbycavanaug…
ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHY
KWC: Why and how did you become a cosplay photographer? Did you have any help?
RenoBenPhotography : Well about 7 years ago I started going to anime conventions, and I was always fascinated by all the costumes. So I wondered how I could get into this community, and help contribute to it so I started shooting with my point in shoot camera, and I really enjoyed it. Two years later I got my hands on a entry level DSLR, and I was able to enter a whole new world of photography.
I indeed had help from many people while I was learning to be a photographer, and till this day I continue to welcome any help to further improvements to my work.
KWC: What does photography mean to you?
RenoBenPhotography : At this moment in my life Photography is my passion, my life, and it means everything to me. It's one of the few things in this world that can make me happy even if I'm in a not so good mood.
KWC: Which camera do you use?
RenoBenPhotography : I'm currently using a Canon 6D, and I love it, tho I will admit I do miss my 60D.
KWC: Do you prefer manual ou auto focusing?
RenoBenPhotography : I prefer to use Auto Focusing more because you never know when you'll miss a moment, or if you do catch it, it won't be 100% in focus, but I will also use manual if it is in a more controlled environment like a Studio, or private shoot.
KWC: Which lenses do you use?
RenoBenPhotography : I've used a variety of lenses, ranging from Primes, to Zooms. My current lenses I use the most are my 50mm 1.4, and my 135mm 2.0, and looking to invest in a more wide angle lens.
KWC: How do you pick the place to shoot? And the photo angles?
RenoBenPhotography : For me I love capturing the right background that fits the character. So I will find the perfect setting by looking in forums, google maps, or just asking fellow photographers if they know of similar locations.
As for the angle it really depends. If I'm shooting a really intimidating character that shows power, then I might shoot at a lower angle to make him look more terrifying, or to show off his power. If it's a more cutesy character I tend to shoot at more downwards angles, or straight forward to give that more submissive, or cutesy look to the photo. It all really depends, and angles in my opinion can truly make or break a photo.
KWC: What have you learned as a photographer?
RenoBenPhotography : I've learned many things as a photographer, and one being how to communicate with all different types of people because everyone is different, and you have to be able to make everyone you work with comfortable. I always say "a model that is comfortable with her photographer will always produce better shots". So in terms it helped me learn how to become a better people person.
KWC: Useful tips for the future photographers.
RenoBenPhotography : If you're truly passionate, or even just doing it as a hobby. I have to say please don't disregard other photographers critiques, or help to further improve your work. Don't take it as an insult because in the end you're just hurting your own work if you think you're already perfect. There are many great photographers out there that are constantly learning from other photographers, and further improving themselves. So take in what you learn, and put it into your photography. If it's not something you like you don't have to do it, but at least try it once to see if you might like it later.
